La obra Leave or Die en Espacio Oculto.

Leave or Die nace de la voluntad de mostrar la realidad de quienes arriesgan sus vidas en las rutas migratorias, un camino marcado por el peligro, la explotación y la incertidumbre. El proyecto comenzó con entrevistas a personas migrantes como Augustin Prince, quien relata su experiencia en su libro El viaje de Prince, describiendo las razones que lo llevaron a huir de Camerún y los riesgos que enfrentó hasta llegar a España.
Esta primera fase se complementó con la interacción directa con migrantes durante el desarrollo del mural en sector 4 de la Cañada Real, en Madrid, un espacio donde las historias de quienes buscan sobrevivir y reconstruir sus vidas cobran una intensidad especial. El contacto con estas vivencias despertó en mí un profundo interrogante: ¿Qué condiciones políticas, sociales y económicas obligan a tantas personas a abandonar sus hogares y arriesgarlo todo?
Para comprender más a fondo esta problemática, decidí viajar a Camerún en 2024, un país marcado por la guerra civil entre la región anglófona y la francófona, para documentar de primera mano la situación que viven quienes huyen. Mi trabajo combina investigación, testimonio y creación artística, transformando la observación directa y los relatos personales en narrativas visuales que conectan al espectador con la realidad de la migración.

Leave or Die was born from the desire to show the reality of those who risk their lives on migratory routes, a journey marked by danger, exploitation, and uncertainty. The project began with interviews with migrants people such as Augustin Prince, who recounts his experience in his book Prince's Journey, describing the reasons that led him to flee Cameroon and the risks he faced until reaching Spain.
This first phase was complemented by direct interaction with migrants during the development of the mural in sector 4 of La Cañada Real, in Madrid, a space where the stories of those seeking to survive and rebuild their lives gain particular intensity. Engaging with these experiences sparked in me a profound question: What political, social, and economic conditions force so many people to leave their homes and risk everything?
To gain a deeper understanding of this issue, I decided to travel to Cameroon in 2024, a country marked by civil war between the Anglophone and Francophone regions, to document firsthand the situation faced by those fleeing. My work combines research, testimony, and artistic creation, transforming direct observation and personal stories into visual narratives that connect the viewer with the reality of migration.

El Sahara: un viaje sin retorno pone rostro a una realidad que a menudo se reduce a números. Cada persona representa a alguien que ha tenido que dejar su hogar atrás, cargando con su historia. Las tres niñas en primer plano recuerdan que incluso los más jóvenes forman parte de este camino forzado. El desierto no es un símbolo, es un riesgo real: calor extremo, falta de agua y pocas garantías de sobrevivir. La obra habla del sufrimiento y de la incertidumbre que acompaña todo el camino, pero también de la necesidad de seguir adelante cuando quedarse ya no es una opción.

The Sahara: A Journey of No Return puts a human face on a reality that is often reduced to numbers. Each person represents someone who has had to leave their home behind, carrying their own story. The three girls in the foreground remind us that even the youngest are part of this forced journey.
The desert is not a symbol, but a real danger: extreme heat, lack of water, and very little chance of survival. The work speaks of suffering and the uncertainty that accompanies the entire journey, but also of the need to keep moving forward when staying is no longer an option.

Leave or Die muestra una realidad dura y muchas veces silenciada. Las personas que migran no lo hacen por elección, sino por necesidad, huyendo de la violencia, la pobreza o la falta de oportunidades. En el camino enfrentan mafias, abusos y explotación, que aumentan aún más el riesgo de un viaje ya de por sí extremo. La situación es especialmente grave para las mujeres, que sufren violencia constante y, en muchos casos, embarazos fruto de agresiones que les impiden continuar el trayecto. Los rostros tachados reflejan la deshumanización: cómo estas personas se reducen a cifras sin identidad.
El azul dominante y los chalecos naranjas establecen un vínculo con El Sahara: un viaje sin retorno, mostrando que el sufrimiento y el riesgo no terminan al cruzar el desierto, sino que persisten hasta el mar y más allá.

Leave or Die reveals a harsh and often silenced reality. People migrate not by choice, but out of necessity, fleeing violence, poverty, or a lack of opportunities. Along the way, they face mafias, abuse, and exploitation, which further increase the risks of an already dangerous journey. The situation is especially severe for women, who endure constant violence and, in many cases, pregnancies resulting from assaults that prevent them from continuing their journey. The crossed-out faces reflect dehumanization: how these people are reduced to numbers without identity.
The dominant blue and the orange life jackets create a connection with The Sahara: A Journey of No Return, showing that suffering and risk do not end upon crossing the desert, but continue all the way to the sea and beyond.
